*This position is based out of our Westlake, OH office and will have a hybrid schedule after the probationary period.

JOB OVERVIEW:
The Paralegal III supports the legal department across a broad range of matters, including researching, and analyzing legal questions and client concerns, as well as taking an ownership in the development of presentations to assist in-house counsel.  The Paralegal III will be an integral role in the legal department, providing substantive research and analysis for client complaints, matters in litigation and general internal client questions.   

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
  • Ownership over logging and analyzing levies and garnishments, ensuring accurate review and timely responses.
  • Assist with researching procedural legal questions and obtaining court dockets and publicly available research requested by in-house counsel.
  • Manage lawsuits where the company is improperly named as a defendant, ensuring the company is protected with timely responses.
  • Develop substantive knowledge of how to handle questions regarding powers of attorney and beneficiary questions from clients and assist with analyzing and providing advice regarding such.
  • Assist with managing the internal legal mailbox for questions posed to the legal department.
  • Assist with creating letter templates for use by in-house counsel to aid in efficient responses to internal clients and third parties.
  • Assist with review of subpoenas for production.
  • Proactively identify issues and anticipate the support needs for in-house counsel.
  • Conduct legal research as necessary.
  •  Maintain calendars and deadline tracking.
  • Support due diligence process, including document collection and organization.
  • Assist with creating workflows and matter tracking.
  • Assist with insurance renewal and payment of legal bills.
  • Assist with billing coordination, invoice review and budget tracking.
  •  Create presentations for management meetings.
  • Takes an ownership role when working with legal counsel in analyzing, researching, and resolving legal matters.
  • Serves as the point-person for the legal department for all departments of the company in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Attends meetings for legal counsel with internal clients on matters involving operations and fact gathering.
  • Attends meetings with outside counsel, clients, and regulators to assist the legal department with a response.
  • Interact with clients and explain the company’s position on client concerns; handle escalated customer phone calls.
  •  Assist with the implementation of programs/initiatives to enhance risk awareness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • HS diploma required, Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 4-6 years of experience in paralegal role at law firm or corporation.
  • Financial services experience preferred.

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Paralegal certification required.

TECHNICAL SKILLS:
To be successful in this role, you should have experience with and an understanding of the following: 
  • Data entry and analysis.
  • Adobe Acrobat Reader/Pro DC.
  • Familiarity with e-discovery platforms.
  • Notary public commission (or willingness to obtain).
  • Microsoft Office suite of applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to speak and hear. The associate is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and reach with hands and arms. This job requires the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
